Feelings of Life 生活的感受 (2026)

Feelings of Life (生活的感受) is a photographic project focusing on the feelings of in-between moments in everyday life. It centres on the subtle intervals and transitional states that often go unnoticed over time. The project considers how the present is not always defined by action but is quietly felt through fleeting experiences.

The word life (生活) in Chinese is made up of two characters. "生" means “being alive”, and "活" means “going through life”. This dual meaning reminded me of the overlooked moments that define lived experience.

The images are shot in natural winter daylight with ambient light. They sustain a feeling of warmth in cold environments, advocating hope and continuity. Each image stands independently. They form a constellation of coexisting states unified by an interest in the textures of the present.

Using staged photography and mise-en-scène, ten cinestill-like works were created with off-centre compositions and layered environments to evoke stillness. The protagonists represent fragments of a dispersed self. Each occupies a distinct emotional state within a transitional space.

Feelings of Life is not meant to define life, but to draw attention to the subtle moments that make daily experience meaningful.
