Layers of (You)(2025)
This project looks at how people experience emotional misalignment in a connection that never became a full relationship. It is based on personal reflection and examines how two individuals can remember memories differently.
The work uses seven symbolic layers, shown as pairs of still-life photographs, to illustrate how memory can change or become unclear over time and with emotional distance. Each pair shows two opposing views: one focused on holding onto the memory, and the other on letting it go.
Each photograph shows symbolic objects placed behind frosted vinyl. This creates distance and softens details. The use of ambient cinema light and off-centre framing creates a sense of instability and emotional haze. Colour coding highlights contrast, with one side showing pink objects on a white background and the other side reversing this to show different emotional views.
The final display includes fourteen printed images, organised in pairs inside several transparent vinyl record sleeves. Each sleeve holds two photographs, one on each side. The pieces are hung with metal hangers, creating a quiet display where memories seem to float in the air.
This work captures a shared emotional experience rather than a specific personal story. Layers of (You) invites viewers to reflect on the unresolved aspects of their own emotional journeys.
